Perfection

This tiny piece of perfection is Mia - lover of sleeping, formula, soft blankets and reggae music (really!).   Because it is going to take me forever to process the MILLION pictures I took of this little one, I am posting this as a sneak peek for Mia's mommy.   The gallery is coming soon, Nicki, I promise. :)

One of my Favorites

favorite |ˈfāv(ə)rət| (Brit. favourite)
adjective [ attrib. ]held in special regard; best liked; preferred
Every time I finish photographing a family I say, "I love them!  This family is my favorite."
As a mother of only one child, I've never had to worry about playing favorites or being partial to one child over another.  But then along came my photography "children" -  these families that I spend time with and get a tiny glimpse of what life is like being with them.  Being a family.  I realized that I can have many favorites for many different reasons.   Some families are just downright fun to be around.   Others suck you in with all the love they have for each other.  And then there are those that you just love for some reason that you can't quite put your finger on.Last week I got to spend an afternoon with this family.   A mother and her four daughters, with a son on the way.   I love them.  They are my favorite (well, one of them).  :)  Why?  Maybe it was the way you could see how much the girls loved their mom.  Or maybe it was the way she looked at them.  I'm not sure.  I just know that they are now one of my favorites.

Worth the wait

After getting rained out twice, I finally got the chance to spend some time with this sweet family.   I love the way their pictures turned out!  I guess the third time really is a charm. :)

Moments

moment |ˈmōmənt|nouna very brief period of time she was silent for a moment before replying.• an exact point in time she would always remember the moment they met.• an appropriate time for doing something; an opportunity I was waiting for the right moment.

A loving look, a little smile, a moment.   A very brief period of time, gone in an instant.  There to be observed then remembered and cherished.   It is really special to actually capture one of these moments with my camera.  More often than not, these moments are few and far between.   Not with this family.  Our whole hour-long session was filled with these moments.   It was so easy to tell how much they loved each other and witnessing it was a joy.
Now as a photographer, I have always aspired to take pictures with emotion - emotion you can really feel just by looking at the picture.  I truly believe I captured some of those moments with this family.   And though through a photographer's eyes there may be aspects that are not "technically" correct, I believe the emotion is spot-on.  I'm not one to gush (as you can tell by my previous blog posts :)), but this time is different.   I was inspired by this family and now have a passion, more than ever before, to capture these moments for others to cherish.........
These are just a few of my favorites.

Lucky me!

That's how I feel about this session.  I photographed this gorgeous mama over a week ago (I'm a little late, I know) and this had to be one of my favorite sessions ever.   We had so much in common (husband's name, son's name, future son's name, husband's birthday - almost) it was starting to get a little scary! :)  I am so grateful that Dee allowed me capture this special time in her life.  I can't wait to meet baby Owen!!

The perfect fall day, perfect setting, perfect family.  Taking pictures with this family was just, well, perfect.
